New Work 2020 - Worktivity Concept Phase1

In this article we present ideas for a new post-Covid office concept. The starting point is that in the future it is likely that 30-50% will work from home in the home office. This means that the workplaces in the office are only partially occupied, which reduces the attractiveness of the office in the company and can lead to a drop in performance. The aim is therefore to increase the attractiveness of the offices in the company with low occupancy and to create alternative collaborative areas that at the same time offer work opportunities for temporary overcrowding in the office. In contrast to the well-known meeting islands and relaxation zones, we would like to favor active ergonomics in the new "3rd places" with this concept.

This was implemented in the form of so-called ponies. Mobile upholstered stool in 2 heights and 2 different lengths. This makes it possible to design flexible and changeable seating landscapes. The imagination knows no limits.

With regard to video presentations, telephone calls and absolute silence, it is necessary to use completely shielded room units (boxes), especially in smaller offices. A purely sound-absorbing acoustic measure in the room is not enough to bring the necessary quiet into partially open cabins. Sound absorption increases speech intelligibility, which in turn minimizes concentration. In this planning concept, therefore, soundproofed rooms were planned in room boxes. To increase the attractiveness of the 3rd places collaboration, 2 boxes were also planned.

The customer intends to furnish a new office building with new equipment. A new concept is to be developed that is suitable for optimally designing office operations under the new conditions after Covid19.

Time out, fitness exercises, "coffee break", meeting, exchange, presentation, training, lecture

Worktivity:

Time out, "coffee break", meeting, exchange, PLUS working in an alternative flexible environment.

(Reserve if desksharing tables are all occupied.)

Work (Desk sharing):

Regular height-adjustable ergonomic workstations

Work (permanent):

ergonomic workstations

Sales (Desk sharing):

Jobs for sales team (field service).

a) tables for temporary use, and

b) Acoustic booths for video presentation with customers.

 

3rd Places

The home office, "First Place", is an important part of office work in companies as an alternative place of work after Covid 19. The company office, "Second Place", is a place of interaction and a sense of togetherness with a high quality of experience and stay. The office is a mirror of the brand and manifestation, an expression of the corporate culture. It is important to find the optimal mix of "5K" of communication, collaboration, concentration, creativity and contemplation.

The "Third Places" (also known as coworking spaces) are, especially in combination with home office and desk sharing, an optimal complement to the purely functional standard workstations.

Employees like to look for them because of the inherently good quality of stay, the opportunity to work, the homely atmosphere and the energizing variety of activities in this area.

Comfortable sofas, however, can be very uncomfortable if you sit there for a long time and possibly still want to work on the laptop. Coffee house bistro tables are equally present and disadvantageous. The current research for facilities for 3rd places showed that upholstered stools and benches in various shapes dominate the furniture of the 3rd places.

  •    An important aspect is the quality of the rooms, which should offer an inherently good quality of stay, so that they are accepted by the employees.
  •    Consequently, the architectural design of the room areas is important.
  •    Qualitative design of e.B. floor, ceiling, wall and light.
  •    Carpet and office grid ceiling is less suitable to convey a good quality of stay in the sense of 3rd places.
  •    A cost factor that should be taken into account!

 

3rd Places -> many features

Provided that a few multifunctional furniture elements are used, 3rd places can be redesigned in a variety of ways as required and at any time.

Possible functional areas are e.B.:

1. Time out, entertain and exchange, leisure, rest... and also with Corona distance!

2. Fitness activities e.B. relaxation exercises

3. Alternative zone with multifunctional claim.

a. Temporary work (if e.B. the normal office desks are all occupied)

b. Exchange and teamwork

c. Presentation

d. Lecture ....

In the following first draft plan, only 2 functional areas are planned representatively. The many other possibilities with the same furniture are available by arrangement in 2. Planning step planned.

The 2 planned functional areas are separated by sliding surface curtains. Of course, the surface curtains must be opened and the areas can be extended or reduced as required.

Note: The distance rules have been observed in this first planning draft!

 

Features of the Vital-Office concept – ergonomics through activity

Innovative multi-purpose furniture:

"Ponies" on wheels (two heights and two lengths) to sit on padded riding saddle with open hip angle posture or to sit "normally".

Ponies: Multifunctional use also for active exercises (posture exercise course is offered in the office) or to create distance between groups.

In the "Activity" area, a support with vibrating rods from Bioswing Improve (not visible in the drawing) is placed to interrupt the sedentary work with posture exercises.

The desks currently have rectangular shapes, but can be planned with round shapes in the "Infinity" design (see Administration Office). This creates an even more innovative atmosphere.

The tables (in the form of a "U") have different heights and can be moved into each other.

In the "Activity" section, there is a large whiteboard for presentations in a relaxed and team-oriented environment.

The sofa area serves as a separation from the toilets.

In the activity zone there is a large screen where you can watch videos with exercises and health tips to promote a healthy lifestyle (anti-smoking campaigns, healthy eating, healthy exercises, corporate activities).

In each area there are spaces for green plants, which serve to separate rooms, but also to relax the view and improve the climate and air quality.

One or two soundproof cabins could also be placed in the Worktivity area.

In the "Sale" area, distances of 2 m are guaranteed, as the cabins have doors; Thus, it is possible to work with tables in front of the cabins.

The "Wey" chairs are ergonomic and contribute to upright sitting with their anatomical shapes.

The sliding partition curtains allow rooms to be opened or separated as required and create a pleasant atmosphere depending on the colour chosen.
